Happy Anniversary my love!
For those of you who don’t know, today marks Colton and I’s official 4 year anniversary.
I know that 4 years is very small, as compared to the rest of our lives, but we have just experienced and gone through so much in the past 4 years together, that it’s really exciting to see what the future will hold for us.
It’s really funny, because when we first meet people, or if anyone asks about our relationship, it always goes the same way.
It’s something like “Oh my gosh, you guys are soooo cute! How did you guys meet?? Was it romantic? You’ve been together for 4 years!? What’s your secret?? Are you getting engaged soon??!!!”
And then the crickets hit… & we’re over here like, I don’t know where to begin, we have no idea what we’re doing… what’s for dinner?? Will there be wine? LOL
But in all seriousness, we’ve just been never a “traditional” couple.
You know, it wasn’t love at first sight, we didn’t go on 15 perfect dates before we became official, I didn’t get my #ringbyspring, we are living together before marriage, and we probably won’t get engaged for quite awhile. We have always said that 25-27 sounds right for us.
We’re basically the ultimate millennials, and we are perfectly happy with that. It’s what makes us, us.
Colton and I met the summer of 2011, going into our Sophomore year.
When we moved into our first off campus homes, we happened to move one house down from each other. I joke that we only became friends because he would drive me to parties….. kidding of course!! But it did start because he basically lived next door.
He walked up to me at a get together the first week I had moved in, and told me we were neighbors. I went to San Diego the next day to visit a friend for the weekend, and when I came back, we spent almost every day together.
He became my friend. You know?
But eventually we developed feelings. && to be completely honest, the months leading up to us “officially” dating were kind of hectic. For like almost 5 months we were in that awkward stage. You know, the “Are we dating? Are we just friends? Are we seeing other people?? I’m 19 and this is all confusing!!” stage.
I don’t think we ever really even had an “official first date” either. I mean I’m sure we did, but nothing stands out. We think we went to T-Park, but that barely counts because it’s the biggest hole-in-the-wall, // worst sushi restaurant in Waco, so cool lol.
When he asked me to be his girlfriend, to most, it wouldn’t count as romantic, but it meant everything to me.
But that’s all that counts, amiright!?
Anyways, the day after Thanksgiving in 2011, he came over to meet my dad for the first time. He kind of looked at me and said, “So, how are you introducing me to your Dad? As your “friend” person?” and I thought, “well, I haven’t really thought that far ahead, I have no idea!!”.
So, he asked me right there.
( Undergrad : 2012-2014)
For the next 3 years in college, he became my person, and there is not a memory that doesn’t include him. The memories we made together, the friendships, the hard times in our lives we helped each other overcome, I wound’t change it for the world. I feel extremely honored to have met him at such a young age. To experience so much with him, and to grow so much with him.
There is no secret to our relationship, except that we refuse to give up, and we’re real. We fight, we have hard times, we yell, but we also love, we laugh, we cry tears of happiness & and we respect each other. We have the same values, thoughts & dreams for the future.
(Post Grad : 2014-2015)
Now, we have both graduated from school, work full time, and have moved in together. We are in the process of learning who we are, and what our purpose is in this life.
&&& honestly, just learning who each other are, outside of Baylor.
Because everything definitely changes. It’s like a whole new level of stress & responsibility. Just a little FYI for all of you undergrads out there.
But as of today, Colton and I are really just enjoying our lives & our relationship right now… We’re also doing a lot of growing, individually, and spiritually.
(Cali, Vegas, Destin 2015)
We’re having a lot of fun… we travel a lot, we experience as much as possible, and are not holding back from living.
To say that Colton and I work really hard at our relationship, is an understatement. I think it’s the reason we have lasted as long as we have.
Plus, when you know, you just know.
We’re not the perfect couple, but to be completely honest, I do not think there is such thing as the “perfect couple”. I think it’s the love, dedication, and mutual respect that you have to have for each other that makes relationships last.
Buttt, okay, okay, okay, I’ll stop boring you guys with lovey-dovey stuff!
We’re heading to Austin today to Celebrate Thanksgiving, as well as our Anniversary. Btw, how many of you guys are running in the Austin Turkey Trot?? We will be there!
Have a great Thanksgiving you guys!!
Happy Anniversary Colton, I love you with all of my heart, forever & ever, to the moon and back.
